Doug is a prominent Calgarian with extensive experience in both amateur and professional sport. A former Canadian Football League player, executive and commissioner, he has also been a member of the National Hockey League’s Board of Governors. A member of the Order of Canada, the Alberta Order of Excellence and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, he is currently the national chair of ParticipACTION.

Doug has played a leadership role in many other sports endeavours, including serving as chair of the 2001 World Track and Field Championships and the Calgary Tourism Sports Authority. A leading partner in the Calgary law firm Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), Doug founded a national awards program, the BLG Awards, to honour Canadian university athletes. He has served extensively as a volunteer amateur football, hockey, soccer and baseball coach.
